There is often disapproval from others about me taking folk to meet really ancient trees in the woodlands. It's almost like they must only belong to the few, but this is a kind reminder that we are allowed to roam freely within the New Forest. These beautifully, ancient, pollarded trees won't be seen in generations to come, so let us witness them with joy in our hearts.
The fear is that too many folk will pilgrimage to these trees and deplete them with footfall, but the beauty is, if you stay close on the gnarly roots showing above ground, you are doing no damage. These trees pull you in close to feel the sentient beings they are. By stepping back and tiptoeing around it, this is where the damage is done within the unseen root system. So get up close, feel the bark, appreciate the life they support, thank them for their life-giving support, and fall completely and utterly in love with nature 💕
